Forsyth debuts with Top 5 finish at BC High School XC Championships
Conditions were unseasonably cold for the lower mainland athletes but the course at Jericho was in fine shape having dried up from Thursday's rain storm. Snow flurries began to fall just as the first race was about to begin creating a pleasant, wintery atmosphere.
Grade 8 Sophie Forsyth (York House) had a great race in her first ever BC HS Championships, placing 4th in the Junior Girl's (Grade 8-10) competition in a field of nearly 250 athletes. Her finishing time was 18:10, just ten seconds back from the overall winner, Anna Maslechko , a 10th grader from West Point Grey Academy. Coincidently, Maslechko competes for the Thunderbirds during the track season, while opting to run Cross Country with her school team. Both girls are coached by Stan Jang and Sean Dawson.
On the Junior boys side, the highlight performance from the Thunderbirds came from Riordan Miya. Miya has improved dramatically through the season culminating with an 8th place finish, and leading the Kitsilano Secondary School's Junior Boys to a 1st place team title. Miya was followed soon after by Thunderbird athlete Dylan Uhrich (Tupper Secondary) in 9th and Christian Petersen (26th).
