XC Season Off to a Strong Start for TBIRDS!

Words by Coach Graeme Fell

The TBIRDS had a great day at the Festival of Cross-Country at Crescent Park this past Saturday with 43 runners representing either TBIRDs or their schools.

Nine runners cracked the top 3: Tamara Hamze and Jamie Armstrong take wins in the 9 and 12 YO races, Chloe Symon, Paige Bailey, Harris Boomer, & Max Holmes taking second spot in their respective races, and Jeevut Saijan, Ben Smith, and Chris Guite taking third spots in their events also. Taylor De Witt, Charlotte Lang and Declan Kirker all ran strong races and narrowly missed out on the medal position.

Rubi Tupper, Lily Mindell, Eva Kriebel, Angus Taylor-MacDonald, and Mitchell Klassen all notched top six finishes. Running strongly for top 10 finishes were Ava Rodway, Maddi Blesch, Nickolas Jang, Darla Pitkanen, John Martindale, Abbey Lane, Samantha Campbell, Alex Howard, and Grayson Kirker.

Rounding out the TBIRD contingent were: Otse, Osiro & Oshiomo Idanwekhai, Loius Rapoport, Micah Anderson, Waris Marwaha, Henry and Chloe Lazare, Rose Finlayson, Sebastian Kandakou, Joshua Wong, Jiya Budhiraja, Scarlett Tupper, Carly Lane, Teran Claire, Luke Wagner, Mark Boisset, Charlotte Fisher, Evelyn Kandakou, Annie Wagner; many of whom were either making their first foray into cross-country either for the club or for the first time ever. As the season progresses we look forward to watching their progress.

The next official event is the Frank Reynold’s Memorial Races in Cates Park, North Vancouver on Saturday, October 16th. If you manage to get to this event take a post-race trip to Deep Cove and check out Honey’s Donuts!!!
