Aniamaka Breaks National Triple Jump Record

In action at the University of Washington High School Invitational this weekend in Seattle, Surrey’s Praise Aniamaka hopped, skipped, and jumped his way to a new Canadian National under-18 record in the triple jump. Aniamaka, who trains with the Surrey-based Thunderbirds Track & Field Club under Coach Iuliana Kroeger led all competitors at the prestigious indoor meeting with his record jump of 15.00m (49ft 2.5’’). After a solid series, the record-breaking leap for the grade 11 student at Pacific Academy came on his 5th attempt, garnering him the win and besting his own meet record set the year prior. Most notably, Aniamaka’s result marks the first instance in Canadian History of a U18 athlete eclipsing the elusive 15m mark, surpassing the previous national record of 14.95 by Richard Lacombe, set in 1974.
