Recap: JD Thunderbirds Shine in Burnaby and Maple Ridge Competitions

The past two weekends saw the TBird JD’s in action in Burnaby, at the Norwester’s Meet, and in Maple Ridge at the Golden Ears Meet.

The Norwester’s meet was a great success with TBird athletes claiming 2nd. Of special note in the meet were the performances of Anna Kruk, Nyla Tukker, Victoria Cheung, Jessica Mills, Misha Sayani, and Elias Leacock all of whom had multiple placings in the top 3 in a variety of events: Anna Kruk claiming first places in the 200m, 2000m, and Long Jump, and third in High Jump; Nyla going second in the 2000m, second in High Jump, and second in Long Jump; Victoria busily earning first in the 60m and Long Jump, and second in the 100m. Jessica placed third in High Jump and shot, and first in Javelin. New member, Misha  Sayani, took third in the 200m and first in the hurdles. Finally Elias managed to snag third place in the 100m, second in the 600m, and second in the 60m.

Our High Jumpers showed well: Maclean Carlson and Harris Boomer, both winning, while in the Javelin wins were added by Mason Van Ramsdonk, Griffin Cole, and the before mentioned, Jessica Mills. Roman Yeterian picked up two second places in shot and discus.

The Maple Ridge meet was held in hot conditions for the time of year and this made competing difficult. The TBird athletes from Surrey, Vancouver West and Vancouver East all taking part and showing well.

In the hurdles Roman Yeterian and Luc Primeau went 2nd and 3rd, Misha Sayani picked up a third, Roman Simmons a silver, Lili Horlock earned a gold, as did Victoria Cheung

In the sprints Jasleen Nagra and Marylou Djida went 1,2 in the 100m, Victoria Cheung grabbed 2nd  in the 60m and first in the 100m. Ava Eichorst picked up silver in the 100m and 80m hurdles. Jasleen added to her 100m win by taking the 200m, Akasha Chamberland picking up silver, while on the boys side Roman Simmons earned, both in the 200m

In the distance events, Camron Haime came 2nd in the 1200m, Chloe Symon came 3rd in the 800m, and Elijah Clarke and Harris Boomer renewed their rivalry in the 1000m, Elijah taking first spot. Alice Barton took gold in the 1000m and Francesco Hawkey picked up a bronze in the 1000m also, Michael Lam going on place better in his 1000m.

The TBIRDs quartets in the 2008 boys and 2006 girl’s 4*100m races came first.

In the high jump, Eva Eichhorst added to her sprint medals, taking gold with a 1.40m new personal best. Griffin Cole scaled 1.35m to take second, with Abigayle Gibbs taking third and Harris Boomer taking 2nd in his event. Pierce Simmons took 1st place in his long jump, Victoria Cheung taking 2nd , while Roman Simmons and Misha Sayani went 2 and 3 in their competition, a feat duplicated by Abigayle and Natalie Frank in their long jump. Uc Primeau picked up bronze in the 2007 boy’s event.

Finally, TBirds were excellent in throws, Griffin Cole in the javelin, and Roman Yeterian, Pierce Simmons, and Natalie Frank each taking gold in their shot events, Jessica Mills taking 2nd to Natalie’s effort.
